What is financial assistance?
Financial Assistance is all federal and state assistance. Financial Assistance is specifically used to help you with the costs of your college education. Federal financial aid is provided for eligible students through federally funded programs. Although federal financial aid is not designed to cover the entire cost of your education, applying for federal aid is the first step in meeting your educational expenses.  In fact you can complete that first step right now.

STEP ONE - Start the Financial Aid Process:

Filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required to begin the financial aid process.  By clicking on the FAFSA link above you can complete this step online and be on your way to securing the means to finish your degree.  When completing the FAFSA use the code 003149 as the School Code and the results of your FAFSA inquiry will be sent to SNU in approximately 2-3 business days.

Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grant (OTAG)
The Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grant (OTAG) is a grant awarded by the State of Oklahoma. Eligibility is determined by the results of the FAFSA and by the OTAG residency requirements. The OTAG is applied directly to the student's account and does not have to be repaid. The student must complete and mail the FAFSA by March 1 to be considered for the OTAG.

Subsidized Stafford Loan
A Subsidized Stafford Loan is a federal loan that must be repaid. For new borrowers, the interest rate is variable (not to exceed 8.25%) and is reviewed and determined by July 1 each year. Eligibility is determined by the results of the FAFSA, but application for the loan is made through a separate lending institution. Interest does not accrue and repayment does not begin until six months after the student has completed the program or has withdrawn from the University. Prior to disbursement, the lender withholds approximately 3% from the loan amount to cover loan origination and insurance fees. For details on the maximum annual loan limits, contact the Professional Studies Financial Assistance office at 405.491.6685 or 405-717-6204.

Unsubsidized Stafford Loan
If the student is not eligible for a Subsidized Stafford Loan, as determined by the results of the FAFSA, an Unsubsidized Stafford Loan can be an alternative. Unsubsidized means that interest will accrue while the student is in school. The student can choose to pay the interest while in school or defer the interest and have it added to the principal balance. As with the subsidized loan, repayment on the principal does not begin until six months after the student has completed the program, or withdrawn from the University. The interest rate is variable (not to exceed 8.25%) and is reviewed and determined by July 1 each year. Eligibility is determined by the results of the FAFSA, but application for the loan is made through a separate lending institution. Prior to disbursement, the lender withholds approximately 3% from the loan amount to cover loan origination and insurance fees. For details on the maximum annual loan limits, contact the Professional Studies Financial Assistance office at 405.491.6685 or 717.6204.
